Longtime Dallas Cowboys veteran has a found a new home for the first time in his NFL career. After Dallas cut ties with the three-time Pro Bowl running back, Ezekiel Elliot remained a free agent for a few months.

But it appears the New England Patriots are scooping up the veteran running back on a one-year deal, one week in to the preseason. This should give Elliot time to acclimate ahead of the 2023-24 NFL regular season, and it remains to be seen where Elliot will slot in to the depth chart alongside incumbent starter Rhamondre Stevenson and backup Ty Montgomery II.

Elliot joins wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster as an offensive veteran that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is taking a chance on this season. It’s a bit of a hodge-podge roster surrounding Mac Jones on the offensive side of the ball, but Elliot is certainly another asset that could help towards building a strong offense.

The former Ohio State running back had a career-low 876 yards on 231 carries in 2022-23, finding the endzone 12 times. It was just the third time in Elliot’s seven-year career that he totaled less than 1,000 yards on the ground, but reaching at least 876 rushing yards per season for seven years is still quite impressive.

The biggest question is, at 28 years old with 1,881 NFL carries to his name, how much does Elliot have left in the tank?
