The Baker Mayfield experience has officially come and gone for the Carolina Panthers.

Just months after acquiring the former first overall pick from the Cleveland Browns, the Panthers are dumping Mayfield following a season riddled with injury and poor play.

With Sam Darnold back on the field and former XFL standout P.J. Walker available for depth, Mayfield had become expendable.

Mayfield will hit the waiver wire before he can become a free agent.

Purely speculating, the San Francisco 49ers are indeed down their second starting quarterback of the season, with Jimmy Garoppolo joining Trey Lance on the Injured Reserve list.
