Two hours before the NBA trade deadline, the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors agreed to easily the most explosive trade of the season for. After trying earlier this week to acquire Russell in a three or four team trade, Minnesota was able to seal the deal with just Golden State before the season’s trade deadline struck.
Golden State has agreed to trade D'Angelo Russell to Minnesota for a deal that includes Andrew Wiggins, a 2021 protected first-round pick and a 2022 second-round pick, league sources tell ESPN. Warriors will send Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman to Timberwolves too.
Andrew Wiggins was always rumored to be a centerpiece in this potential trade, but the Timberwolves were also expected to be pressured by the Warriors to include a first-round pick this year. Minnesota makes out well in this department, instead giving up a 2021 Top-3 Protected first-round pick, and a 2021 second-round selection.
Golden State also sends Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman to Minnesota to make the trade work.
