With Super Bowl 58 in the books, and the Kansas City Chiefs being crowned back-to-back Super Bowl champions, there’s one final order of business for my 2023-24 NFL season coverage: the Post-Super Bowl 58 Power Rankings.

In a sense, these rankings are unnecessary: the final standings and playoff results tell the story of who the best teams in the NFL were this season, more or less. Still, with the full picture in view, it’s my final chance to evaluate how all 32 teams stacked up against each other this season.

To be clear, these are Power Rankings based on the teams the last time they played, whether it was in the regular season or in the playoffs. For non-playoff teams, there should be very little movement (barring a change in opinion on my part, or in the case of a team like the Denver Broncos, realizing just how dominant their mid-season winning streak was: with a win over the eventual Super Bowl champion, as well as other AFC playoff teams.) For playoff teams, exceeding or failing to meet expectations would result in some movement.

Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens finished atop my Post-Week 18 Power Rankings with a strong finish and a 13-4 record, but after failing to reach the Super Bowl, naturally no longer occupy that position.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, on the other hand, rose dramatically. Kansas City finished the season on a bumpy stretch and lacked the signature wins of year’s past, as well as their usual homefield advantage in the playoffs, but it didn’t matter: the Chiefs hoisted the Lombardi Trophy once again.

Other teams that rose due to impressive playoff runs that exceeded expectations include the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Houston Texans.

Playoff disappointments included the Philadelphia Eagles, who were blown out in the Wildcard round by the Buccaneers after representing the NFC in the Super Bowl last season, Dallas Cowboys, who got bounced early once again in a shocking loss to Jordan Love and the Packers, and the Miami Dolphins, who faced both a tough opponent and tough weather in their Wildcard loss to the Chiefs.

Again, these Power Rankings represent right now, if these teams had to play a game. Current injuries are in tact, and this is not a look forward to next season: impending roster moves and decisions are not factored in.

Where do all 32 teams rank at the end of the 2023-24 NFL season? How does their final ranking compare to my preseason expectations?
