“Black Monday,” the day immediately following the conclusion of the NFL’s regular season, is usually when teams make major changes to their coaching staff following a disappointing season.

Calling the 2023-24 Seattle Seahawks season disappointing is tough, but perhaps ultimately fair, as the team failed to repeat the playoff appearance they earned last season.

But 72-year old head coach Pete Carroll has been coaching the team since 2010, to much success, including 5 NFC West titles, 10 playoff appearances in 14 seasons, and 1 Super Bowl title. Even though Seattle missed the playoffs this season, on tiebreakers, Carroll was also helping transition the team from the Legion of Boom and Russell Wilson eras in to a new era.

But apparently, Carroll’s days in Seattle are coming to an end: at least as the Seahawks head coach.

Reportedly, Carroll will move in to an advisor-type role with the Seattle Seahawks organization. At 72 years old, it would certainly make sense if Carroll is done undergoing new challenges and wants to stay with the team in a less time-consuming role.

But if Carroll does want to continue coaching in the NFL, well, I’m sure other NFL teams would come knocking in a heartbeat. Carroll could even net a pretty package for Seattle in exchange for his services, ala Sean Payton from the New Orleans Saints to Denver Broncos.

At this time, it is not completely known whether Carroll intends to stay with Seattle in this advisory role or explore other opportunities as an NFL head coach. Make sure to follow Sak Sports Blog on Twitter for updates.
