As we get deeper in to the second half of the 2023-24 NFL season, we can expect the NFL to utilize flex scheduling more, usually to ensure the best matchups in prime time as well as the late Sunday afternoon slot.

In this instance, the NFL is implementing a flex to avoid two good games going against each other in the late Sunday slot. On paper, the Denver Broncos at Houston Texans matchup in Week 13 didn’t seem particularly special, but with both teams playing well, and the Texans rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud continuing to light it up, it’s a must-see matchup in the AFC playoff race.

To ensure all eyes remain on the San Francisco 49ers-Philadelphia Eagles clash in the late slot, the NFL is flexing the Broncos-Texans game on Sunday, December 3 from 4:05PM ET to 1:00PM ET (3:05PM to 12:00PM, local time for Houston, and 2:05PM to 11:00AM, local time for Denver.)

In return, the Carolina Panthers-Tampa Bay Buccaneers game, originally scheduled in the 1:00PM ET slot, will air alongside the 49ers-Eagles game with a 4:05PM ET kickoff.

The Denver Broncos have battled back from a poor start to a 5-5 record, while Stroud and the Houston Texans have turned heads with a 6-3 record thus far. Regardless of Week 12’s results, this will be a good matchup, but if both teams win in Week 12, the stakes will be even higher, as the outcome could eventually be crucial to the AFC Wildcard Race.
