The first four weeks of the 2025-26 NFL season were mostly fun and games, as long as your team has secured at least two wins so far. But now, things start to get a little more serious in October.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have all but lost their season at 0-4, but Dak Prescott and the 2-2 Dallas Cowboys need a Thursday Night Football win to keep the pace in the NFC East.

Sunday is jam-packed with good games, but the three I would watch most closely are:

  • 4-0 San Francisco 49ers at 3-1 Seattle Seahawks in the Sakmann Sports Game of the Week: this one will settle the debate, temporarily, of who the strongest team in not just the NFC West but the entire NFC is.
  • The 3-1 Las Vegas Raiders look to bounce back from their first loss of the season, a super competitive loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, while Drake Maye and the 2-2 New England Patriots look to put their early season struggles in the rearview mirror and emerge from Week 5 with a record above .500.
  • 2-2 Indianapolis Colts at 2-2 Pittsburgh Steelers doesn’t seem high stakes, but could easily set a trend for which team will be more competitive in the AFC this season, or even a potential playoff seeding tiebreaker if both teams remain in the mix.

On Sunday Night Football, the 2-2 Atlanta Falcons make their third straight primetime appearance, hosting Lamar Jackson and the 3-1 Baltimore Ravens.

Then to round out the week, Josh Allen and the 3-1 Buffalo Bills take on Matthew Stafford and the 2-2 Los Angeles Rams in what should be a great matchup. Can the Bills beat the Rams in their own house to send the Super Bowl 56 hopefuls to 2-3? Or will Los Angeles bounce back and get a much-needed win to keep up in the NFC West?
