The calendar turns to October, and already in just Week 4 of the 2026-27 NFL season, matchups are starting to matter a bit more.
On Thursday Night Football, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns, both 2-1, will battle for at least a share of first place in the AFC North.
Then on Sunday, there’s two groups of teams to look at: the early powerhouses that could start pulling away from the pack (the Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, and… Las Vegas Raiders?) and the Super Bowl 61 hopefuls whose season is already slipping away with a subpar start (the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers, Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, to name a few teams.)
Highlight games on Sunday include Drake Maye and the New England Patriots looking to hand Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills their first loss of the season, as well as the 1-2 Los Angeles Rams looking to get back on track against the 2-1 Philadelphia Eagles following a fourth quarter collapse last week on Sunday Night Football.
That loss came at the hands of Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos, who put their 2-1 record to the test against Brock Purdy and the 3-0 San Francisco 49ers on the road in the Sakmann Sports Game of the Week. Also in the afternoon slot, someone needs to receive their first loss of the season: either the Kansas City Chiefs or Las Vegas Raiders in an undefeated AFC West clash.
Finally, Bryce Young and the Carolina Panthers will host Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions in Carolina’s first home Sunday Night Football game in over a decade. On Monday Night Football, the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans will wrap the week up in a peek of two NFC South teams that don’t always get the spotlight (though Atlanta is in a stretch of three-straight primetime games.)
