The Denver Broncos ended their two-year Russell Wilson era by releasing the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback earlier this off-season.

With Jarrett Stidham left as the only viable option on the roster, it should come as no surprise the Broncos needed to make more moves at the quarterback position.

The New York Jets, with Aaron Rodgers slated to come back healthy, have been dealing with a disgruntled Zach Wilson. The former 2021 second overall pick was thrust back in to the starting role last season after Rodgers’ Week 1 injury, but found the bench again after poor play throughout the season.

The Jets made Wilson available last month, per the former BYU quarterback’s requests, but didn’t garner much interest around the league as quarterback pieces fell in to place via free agency.

But just days ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, another potential avenue to change the quarterback landscape of an NFL team, the Broncos made a move to add a quarterback with NFL experience to their roster. The Broncos acquired Wilson in a late-round pick swap, sending a 6th round pick and receiving a 7th round pick in this week’s upcoming draft.

The Jets will also account for about half of Wilson’s 2024-25 salary, giving the Broncos a cheap option at the quarterback position.

Wilson’s situation may drastically change depending on who Denver drafts, or if any other quarterbacks are added, but at the time being Wilson slots in with the potential to be QB1, if Jarrett Stidham is his only competition. Backup quarterback is likely the ideal landing spot for Wilson in Denver, but that all depends on who else is in consideration. Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci is also on the roster, but is realistically a QB3/practice squad-caliber player.
