With Week 8 of the 2023-24 NFL season in the books, the picture just got a whole lot fuzzier.
There’s only one seven-win and/or one-loss team in the NFL: the Philadelphia Eagles. They’ve played some close ones, such as last week’s bout with the Washington Commanders, but at the end of the day, Jalen Hurts is very hard to beat.
The San Francisco 49ers, who topped these rankings for six straight weeks, have now lost their third straight game, this time to a heating up Cincinnati Bengals team, and continue to tumble.
Where does that leave with us? With a Top 5 that includes the 6-2 Detroit Lions and 6-2 Jacksonville Jaguars: not exactly your usual candidates, historically speaking.
The Baltimore Ravens are also at a season-high #2, quietly becoming one of the NFL’s most consistent teams after taking down the Arizona Cardinals 31-24 in Week 8.
I gave the Minnesota Vikings (#14) an asterisk, with quarterback Kirk Cousins out for the season. Still, everything that has been seen on the field thus far shows the Vikings are a strong team, coking back from an 0-3 start to battle back to 4-4. Likewise, the 49ers acquisition of Chase Young isn’t exactly factored in to these rankings.
