With the XFL looking for high-profile players to fill their rosters, especially at the quarterback position, it should come as no surprise to hear the reincarnated league reached out to Tim Tebow to gauge his interest in playing.

Tebow, once an NFL quarterback leading the Denver Broncos to the playoffs in his first season as a starter, would be the perfect kind of player for the league. Being both a quarterback who was snubbed from the league despite early promise, and a household name that would draw fan interest, attempting to add Tebow to a roster would be a no-brainer from a league-standpoint.

But Tebow addressed the league’s contact, saying that while conversations were had, he’s set on continuing his baseball career in the New York Mets organization.

Tebow likely could have found mild success in the XFL (which has had good, bad, and ugly performances through Week 1.) His unique style that garnered so much success at the University of Florida may have translated well to the upstart league.

But Tebow can’t be faulted for his commitment to baseball, the sport he’s been training for year-round. Sure, the opportunity to play football again would be exciting, but Tebow would have to re-wire his brain and muscles back to the game, and the transition period might not be pretty. With another shot at the NFL seeming almost impossible, it would be a fruitless journey for Tebow to switch back to football at this point in his life.
