The standings got tighter after Week 6, and a lot of teams that were comfortably in the good-to-great range a couple of weeks ago are going to need a win in Week 7 to keep their 2025-26 season steady in the right direction.
I’m looking at Jalen Hurts and the 4-2 Philadelphia Eagles, losers of two straight games after an undefeated start to their Super Bowl 59 defense, to come up with a bounce back win against a rested Minnesota Vikings team that has won two of their last three games. Also in the NFC East, Jayden Daniels and the 3-3 Washington Commanders could use a win to recover from last week’s last-second loss to the Bears, but the 2-3-1 Dallas Cowboys are also reeling from a walk-off loss against the Panthers.
Then, there’s teams on the rise. Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears have won three straight games, and have a home matchup with a 1-5 New Orleans Saints team. With a win to get to 4-2, Chicago would be firmly in the mix in a crowded NFC North through seven weeks. In a similar vein, the 4-2 New England Patriots go on the road against a 1-5 Tennessee Titans team, looking for their fourth straight victory as well.
Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants, winners of two of their last three games with Dart under center, will look to upset a Denver Broncos team that has won three straight games.
Big games this week include the 4-2 Los Angeles Rams and 4-2 Jacksonville Jaguars facing off in London early on Sunday morning, Daniel Jones and the 5-1 Indianapolis Colts looking to extend their hot start on the road against Justin Herbert and the 4-2 Los Angeles Chargers, and a Monday Night Football clash between Baker Mayfield’s 5-1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Jared Goff’s 4-2 Detroit Lions.

Week 1: 10-6
Week 2: 13-3
Week 3: 11-5
Week 4: 10-5-1
Week 5: 5-9
Week 6: 9-6
Overall Record: 58-34-1 (63%)
Week 6 was a decent bounce back from a poor Week 5 showing, but the primetime games tripped me up: I got Sunday Night Football right, but Thursday Night Football and both Monday Night Football matchups wrong.

Sakmann Sports Game of the Week Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1) at Detroit Lions (4-2):
Man, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just keep showing up in my highlighted game of the week, as they keep getting pitted against some of the best team’s the NFL has to offer. Whether its the Philadelphia Eagles (when both teams were still undefeated), the San Francisco 49ers (with both teams being 4-1), or now, a matchup with Detroit Lions (5-1 vs. 4-2), the Buccaneers keep drawing opponents with elite records.
Before the season began, I easily would have taken Jared Goff and the Lions here. But trends matter, Detroit hasn’t been quite as in control as they were last season, and Baker Mayfield has been playing out of his mind despite injuries to his offensive weapons. It’s been a while since I made a pick on pure gut feeling over traditional analysis (the Lions should be pretty hard to beat at home, Tampa Bay isn’t going to finish the season 15-1) but again, the momentum is in Tampa Bay’s favor after winning close game after close game. Buccaneers win 27-26
Houston Texans (2-3) at Seattle Seahawks (4-2): Seahawks win 27-20
