It feels like the 2025-26 NFL season just started, and yet we’re already heading in to Week 6 in the middle of October.
Last week’s headline leading into this week’s story: there’s no more undefeated teams, but there’s a whopping seven 4-1 teams, and they’ll all be in action during Week 6 with just two teams on bye.
Jalen Hurts and the 4-1 Philadelphia Eagles, coming off their first loss of the season, have the potential to bounce back against rookie Jaxson Dart and the 1-4 New York Giants on Thursday Night Football.
Daniel Jones and the 4-1 Indianapolis Colts continue to both surprise and impress, and can push their hot start even further with a win over Kyler Murray and the 2-3 Arizona Cardinals, who are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Tennessee Titans.
Trevor Lawrence and the 4-1 Jacksonville Jaguars host Sam Darnold and the 3-2 Seattle Seahawks in one of the best games of the week, and one of the hardest ones to predict.
The Sak Sports Blog Game of the Week is the only one that pits two of the league’s 4-1 teams against each other: the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers will go toe-to-toe to see who can keep up atop the NFC.
But wait, there’s two more 4-1 teams to go: Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions will play Patrick Mahomes and the 2-3 Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead on Sunday Night Football, and Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills (fresh off their first loss of the season) will travel to play Michael Penix Jr. and the 2-2 Atlanta Falcons as part of a Monday Night Football doubleheader.

Week 1: 10-6
Week 2: 13-3
Week 3: 11-5
Week 4: 10-5-1
Week 5: 5-9
Overall Record: 49-28-1 (64%)
For the first time this season, I failed to hit double digit wins, and I even failed to hit a winning record. I incorrectly predicted the Rams, Eagles, Dolphins, Ravens, Cardinals, Seahawks, Chargers, Bills, and Chiefs to win in Week 6.

Sak Sports Blog Game of the Week San Francisco 49ers (4-1) at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1): The only matchup of Week 6 that features two teams with four wins is this NFC interdivisional clash. The San Francisco 49ers have been able to overcome injuries, including a revolving door at quarterback between Brock Purdy and Mac Jones, to sustain a 4-1 record so far. Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have had to fight for their life in every fourth quarter: they could easily be 0-5 right now, just as easily as they could be 5-0 if not for a blocked field goal attempt at the buzzer against Philadelphia. With injuries piling up for the 49ers, I think the Buccaneers may find a way to actually not sweat this one out late after a gutsy 38-35 win over the Seahawks last week. Buccaneers win 27-20

Detroit Lions (4-1) at Kansas City Chiefs (2-3): While I usually only write about the Game of the Week, this should be a very fun one. I’m inclined to think it won’t be as high scoring as we might hope (the over/under is set at 52.5 points) but if Jared Goff and Patrick Mahomes do get into a shootout, this could be an instant classic of a Sunday Night Football game. These two quarterbacks also played one of the best primetime games ever, with Goff (then with the Rams) outdueling Mahomes and the Chiefs 54-51. My expectations are tempered, as I think the game could end up becoming a chess match between Dan Campbell and Andy Reid. Chiefs win 24-21

Buffalo Bills (4-1) at Atlanta Falcons (2-2): Bills win 33-18
Chicago Bears (2-2) at Washington Commanders (3-2): Commanders win 26-23
Minnesota Vikings (3-2), Houston Texans (2-3)
