With another week of NFL action in the books, the standings are tight and my Power Rankings get even more shake-ups.
First and foremost we have to address the top of the list: there are no more undefeated teams, with both the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles losing in Week 5. That leaves us with a whopping seven teams tied for the best record in the league at 4-1. A few of them may have a case to be the best team in the NFL, but looking at entire bodies of work, it’s hard for me to put anyone other than Josh Allen and the Bills at the top, even with a Week 5 loss to Drake Maye and the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football.
Right on their heels, the Detroit Lions are now 4-1 after taking care of business on the road against a weak Cincinatti Bengals team. The Eagles are still up there, despite some flukey wins this season, but definitely take a step back after failing to beat Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos at home.
Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers outdueled Sam Darnold and the Seattle Seahawks in the Sak Sports Blog Game of the Week for Week 5, winning a thrilling 38-35 shootout to continue creeping up the Power Rankings.
Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts rise another spot after trouncing Geno Smith and the Las Vegas Raiders 40-6 to improve to 4-1.
The San Francisco 49ers (overtime Thursday Night Football win over the Los Angeles Rams) and Jacksonville Jaguars (thrilling fourth quarter comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football) also improved to 4-1. The Jaguars MNF win puts Trevor Lawrence, Travis Hunter, and company right up with the best teams in the AFC and entire NFL.
We also got confirmation that a few teams aren’t very good, with a five-game sample size to prove it. The Raiders look hapless after their blowout loss to the Colts. The New York Jets don’t look like a team that will be winning a football game anytime soon. And Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants may have gotten lucky last week against the Chargers, as they’ve been pretty bad in all four other games.

The Washington Commanders rose five spots after a strong 27-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers on the road to improve to 3-2. The Carolina Panthers also rose five spots (albeit near the bottom of the list), beating the Miami Dolphins for their second win in three weeks.
The Baltimore Ravens were 1-3 with Lamar Jackson this season (with a brutal schedule to be fair), so a 44-10 whopping at the hands of the Houston Texans is going to drop them a decent amount of spots: seven to exact, from #13 to #20.
The New York Jets fell five spots after their loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and the Los Angeles Chargers fell five spots after a 27-10 loss to the Washington Commanders, their second straight loss after a 3-0 start.
The Green Bay Packers also fell five spots despite a bye week: other teams around them have risen, and they haven’t won a game since Week 2.
