The 2024-25 NFL season continues in to November as each game starts to carry a little more weight for postseason-hopeful teams.
Week 9 kicks off on Thursday Night with C.J. Stroud and the 6-2 Houston Texans traveling to play Aaron Rodgers and the 2-6 New York Jets, who are desperately looking to end their five-game losing streak.
Sunday is full of games that could impact playoff races down the line. The Miami Dolphins are 2-5, but can at least stay competitive by giving Josh Allen and the 6-2 Buffalo Bills a competitive game with Tua Tagovailoa back at quarterback for the second straight week.
In a cross-divisional NFC bout, the 3-4 Dallas Cowboys look to get back to .500, while Kirk Cousins and the 5-3 Atlanta Falcons look to cement themselves as one of the best teams in the conference.
On the AFC side, the 5-3 Denver Broncos meet the 5-3 Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore: no one is really expecting Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos to come out with a win over Lamar Jackson and company, but if Denver pulls off the upset, they’ll be on the path to holding one of the best records in the AFC.
Unfortunately, winning the AFC West itself will continue to be an uphill battle for Denver as long as the 7-0 Kansas City Chiefs keep winning. This week, the Chiefs host the 4-4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. A few weeks ago, I may have picked a surging Tampa Bay team over a “struggling” (albeit undefeated) Chiefs offense. But with Baker Mayfield losing weapons like Chris Godwin and Mike Evans lately, Kansas City might just march to 8-0.
In the Sak Sports Blog Game of the Week, the NFC North lead is up for grabs: the 6-2 Green Bay Packers host the 6-1 Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field in a crucial Week 9 matchup. Jordan Love is questionable to start at quarterback for the Packers after suffering an injury last week, but hey, Malik Willis did win two starts earlier this season for Green Bay.
