The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a deal in principle with the Chicago Bears to acquire veteran wide receiver D.J. Moore. The trade can not be finalized until the start of the new league year on March 11. Compensation will be finalized before the new league year begins.

Moore, a first round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, spent his first five seasons with the Carolina Panthers before becoming a major piece in the trade that sent the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft (Bryce Young) from the Chicago Bears to the Panthers.

Moore hasn’t missed a game since 2020, and was a main stay in the Beats offense for the last three seasons, catching 244 passes for 3,012 yards and 20 touchdowns. Moore did see a decrease in participation last season, being targeted 85 times after an average of 138 times over the previous two seasons.

With Moore fading out of the Bears offense, the 28-year-old wide receiver gets a fresh change of scenery and an All-Pro-level quarterback in Josh Allen to work with. Moore joins a group of young receivers including Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Joshua Palmer: it’s quite possible Moore lines up as the number one or “X” receiver in the Bills’ 2026-27 offense. The Bills offense, while still high-powered at times, took a step back overall last season and could use the boost in wide receiver depth to get Buffalo back on top in the AFC East.

For the Bears, Caleb Williams loses a weapon as he continues to show progress, but Williams was also relying less on Moore and spreading the ball around, which is a good sign. Draft compensation will likely be used to shore up Chicago’s playoff-ready roster in other areas.
