Tuesday’s 4:00 PM ET deadline came and went without any team submitting a waiver claim for recently released Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. The former New York Giants star receiver now becomes an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career, per the NFL’s transaction log.
It’s hard to blame the league’s 31 other teams for not submitting a claim for the former Pro Bowl wideout. Besides his slightly hefty $7.25 million price tag, there’s no telling if Beckham would even report if say, a team like the Detroit Lions or Miami Dolphins put in a claim for the disgruntled wide receiver. Beckham essentially forced his way out of Cleveland and created drama near the end of his tenure with the Giants: making teams understandably hesitant to claim Beckham. Now, Beckham can choose his preferred destination out of any interested teams.
Beckham reportedly prefers the Green Bay Packers as his landing spot as a free agent. Whether or not Green Bay is willing to negotiate a contract with Beckham is yet to be known.
